medF

The University Council has appointed Marc Andreas Müller as Professor of Orthopaedics/Traumatology. He will take up his appointment at the University Hospital Basel (USB) on April 1, 2024.

Andreas Müller, born in 1976 and raised in Riehen, has been Titular Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Basel since 2020. He has been Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the USB as Chief Physician ad interim since 2022. His election to the professorship is linked to his appointment as Chief Physician.

Andreas Müller studied human medicine at the University of Basel, where he obtained his doctorate in 2005 and habilitated in 2014. His clinical training included stints at the Triemli City Hospital in Zurich and the USB, as well as research stays at the AO Research Institute in Davos and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA).

His research focuses on functional biomechanics, particularly of the shoulder, regenerative surgery, orthopaedic and traumatological outcome research and tissue engineering. Clinically, Müller specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery and has led the corresponding team at the USB for many years.

Prof. Andreas Müller is easily confused with Prof. Andreas Müller, who is, however, a member of the University Hospital's Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
