Women in the sciences: Prof. Petya Apostolova

medF

On March 14, Prof. Petya Apostolova will give a lecture on women in the sciences at the Biozentrum. She will be speaking as part of the lecture series "Athena's Journey. Empowering Women in Science", which is organized by the Department of Biomedicine and the TWIST initiative.

Prof. Apostolova researches the biology and immunotherapy of blood cancer at the Department of Biomedicine. She concentrates on the question of how hematologic cancers can be cured using immunotherapies. A particular focus is on researching metabolic processes in tumor and immune cells that are central to their survival, cell function and interactions with each other. Her aim is to develop innovative concepts for immunological tumor therapies.

In 2023, Apostolova became Assistant Professor with Tenure Track for Experimental Hematology at the Faculty of Medicine. With her appointment as Assistant Professor, she also became Head Physician at the Department of Hematology at the University Hospital Basel.

Athena's Journey is a joint initiative of the Department of Biomedicine and the TWIST initiative of the Friedrich Miescher Institute, the D-BSSE (ETH Zurich) and Swiss TPH.

The lecture will take place on March 14 at 5 p.m. in the Biozentrum, seminar room U1.195. Please register here.
