108 new Drs. med. and med. dent.
On May 31, 108 new medical and dental medicine doctors were sworn in at the Elisabethenkirche. The keynote speaker was Thomi Jourdan, Head of the Basel-Landschaft Department of Economic Affairs and Health.
First, all those present observed a minute's silence in memory of a candidate who had died in an accident and was due to be sworn in that evening. A candle was lit next to the choir throughout the evening in her memory. In a very personal speech, Thomi Jourdan then compared the future task of the doctoral candidates with his own as a government councillor. Among the many similarities, he emphasized that in both cases it makes sense to create a personal environment that enables full concentration on the challenges ahead.
The degree certificates were presented by Dean Primo Schär and Vice-Dean for Career Advancements Martin Siegemund. Music was provided by the group SwissUrbanLändlerPassion, specifically Matthias Gubler on soprano saxophone, Simon Dettwiler on Schwyzerörgeli, and Hannes Fankhauser on large musical instruments (double bass, alphorn).
