According to a recent survey by Prof. Dr. John. P.A. Ioannidis of Standford University, several people from the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health are among the 2% most cited researchers worldwide.

The current version of the "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators" from October 2023 provides a detailed analysis of the world's most frequently cited researchers in 22 main academic fields and 174 subdisciplines. It includes people who are in the top 2% of their subject areas. The calculations are based on data from the 'Web of Science' and include various citation metrics, taking into account author position (first, last, co-author) and self-citations. The analysis is carried out for the entire career as well as for the last year. All data and analysis codes are publicly accessible. The aim of the database is to enable a fair assessment of academic achievements.

DSBG researchers can be found in this database: Prof. Markus Gerber (Sport Sciences subdiscipline) and Prof. Oliver Faude (Sport Sciences) are listed in the career listing as well as in the analysis of the last year. In addition, Prof. Henner Hanssen (Cardiovascular System and Hematology), PD. Dr. Serge Brand (Psychiatry) and PD Dr. Sebastian Ludyga (Sport Sciences) are listed in the top 2 % in last year's analysis. This is a clear indication of the academic quality and the very positive development of the DSBG.
