Stern-Gattiker Prize for Magdalena Filipowicz Sinnreich
The Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences has awarded Prof. Dr. Magdalena Filipowicz Sinnreich the 2024 Stern-Gattiker Prize, endowed with CHF 15,000. With this honor, the jury recognized "a strong woman who has encouraged others to break through the famous glass ceiling".
The jury recognized Filipowicz Sinnreich's successful combination of cutting-edge clinical medicine with exceptional basic research and successful mentoring of young academics. The SAMS press release from July 9 can be found here.
Filipowicz Sinnreich is Head of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Canton of Baselland Cantonal Hospital. She also heads a research group at the Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel, where she and her team are investigating the role of bacterial-reactive T cells in the development of liver fibrosis.
