Valérie Hilgers new Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology

medF

Prof. Dr. Valérie Hilgers is to become Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Faculty of Medicine. She will take up her position at the Department of Biomedicine on August 1, 2025.

Hilgers researches the highly complex molecular biological processes involved in the formation and maintenance of neuronal cells and circuits. Using new technologies, Hilgers and her team are literally entering worlds that no human has ever seen before. The aim of their research is to better understand the RNA regulation of neurons and thus a key factor in neurological diseases.

After completing her master's degree in cell and molecular biology at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, Hilgers obtained her doctorate in 2010 at Ruprecht Karls University and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg. Since 2016, she has headed a research group at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg im Breisgau.
